Our Heritage

Since 1879. A NOBLE FAMILY. Tribute to our founders.

LUIZ SUPLICY

The Founder ESCRIPTORIO,The parent company of Noble farms

Son of a French immigrant and hailing from a noble family in Toulouse, France, the family arrives in Brazil to start a new life..

In 1879 this charismatic youngster at the age of seventeen moved to Santos, then the coffee capital to the world. Support came from his well-established wealthy in-laws, as they knew Luiz meant business. Luiz was a visionary. Santos was already the world´s biggest coffee port and was growing exponentially, the US had taken to coffee in a big way. He spotted the opportunity to establish himself as a coffee broker. There was no looking back. His success stemmed from the vast network of farmers he knew and the exceptional services he provided. Always preaching that Brazil should focus on quality he reminisced, on the 50th birthday of ESCRIPTORIO, that “as a broker and fellow farmer, quality must always guide decisions”.

LUIZ SUPLICY JUNIOR

The dashing and lively master strategist Luiz Suplicy Junior was given a robust business by his father. He took the leadership role and made sure the company survived and prospered even in the most challenging of times. He had his Fathers DNA and was an astute and globally well-respected coffee businessman.

A plaque in honor of Luiz Suplicy Junior at the entrance of the of the office building named after him. It is located across the street from the Coffee Museum and is the address of the Santos offices of all major exporters.

NOBLE FARMS pays tribute to this by inculcating in its business philosophy the ability to pivot and respond with alacrity when the times demand action of Luis Suplicy Junior.

When Luiz took over the helm, ESCRIPTORIO had already a very well reputed name in the world of coffee. The first half of the 20th century saw numerous government intervention schemes, most of which failed. ESCRIPTORIO, however, took no risks and simply acted on behalf of its customers, amongst which the government, raking in substantial fees. He also oversaw the “new” cotton business, resulting from the diversification which came after the 1929 global crisis.

LUIZ SUPLICY NETTO

To grow a business on values, lead from the front and have trusted partners.

Luiz Suplicy Netto went to work with great gusto and opened the São Paulo offices of ESCRIPTORIO in 1939. He diversified the business, adding to the existing coffee and cotton activities those of financial instruments (stocks & bonds). After the military took power in 1964, the laws now governing Capital Markets in Brazil were created, leading to ESCRIPTORIO founding SUPLICY CORRETORA to establish itself in this newly created Market. In 1976 ESCRIPTORIO, representing the controlling interests of America´s HBC-HILLS BROTHERS COFFEE (13% of retail coffee at the time), negotiated the sale of HBC to COOPERSUCAR, the Brazilian cooperative representing Brazil´s growing sugar cane farmers, which were also coffee farmers.
